Market Research and Business Planning Workshop for Representatives from
the Siberian Chemical Kombinat (SCK) held in Tomsk.
Objectives
Provide practical training in marketing research and business plan
development to SCK representatives.
Develop action plans for previously identified commercial products
which could later be presented to the CNCP Steering Group for grant
funding.
Promote SCK's efforts to train staff to work in new product development
and marketing.
Summary
During CNCP's technology audit for Seversk in February 2003, the team identified a number of potential commercial projects being developed by SCK scientists and technicians that would need further work to make them into fundable project proposals. SCK representatives and CNCP team members thought such project proposal development would be best facilitated in the context of a training workshop.
The workshop included formal training sessions on market research and surveys, business plan development, financial analysis and investment management (i.e. how to decide which projects, within a group,
have the most potential for success and warrant funding). It also included practical sessions during which action plans were developed for five products. From this workshop, a contract with SCK was prepared covering the preparation of grant funding requests for five market studies and the development of five business plans, as well as three product launches.
Cost
The DTI funded the training for a total cost of £5,180.
