  Official visit of CNCP delegation to Yerevan, December 2007

From 19 - 20 December an official visit to Yerevan (Armenia) was organized for representatives of the CNCP Programme. During the visit the CNCP experts visited the Yerevan Institute of Physics and Armenian Scientific Research Institute on operating nuclear power plants of ARMATOM Ltd. During the visit the participants discussed marketing research and business planning on the projects.

  Visit of CNCP delegation to Kharkov, December 2007

On the 11th and 12th of December a visit of CNCP Programme representatives took place in Kharkov (Ukraine). During the visit there was a discussion concerning marketing research and business planning on the projects.

  CNCP is Expanding

Six new institutes officially joined CNCP in November 2007. Five of these are located in Armenia, Georgia and Belarus, i.e. former Soviet Union Republics, where the Programme is just now starting to operate. We would like to introduce our new members and use this chance to once again talk about CNCP in general. We also wish to express our sincere interest in the implementation of joint projects.

  Visit of CNCP Programme delegation to Snezhinsk, November 2007

From the 28th to the 30th of November there was a visit of CNCP Programme representatives to Snezhinsk. CNCP experts visited sites of RFNC-VNIITF, where projects are implemented through ISTC.


  Visit of CNCP delegation to Seversk, November 2007

On 13 - 16 November a CNCP delegation came to Seversk for an official visit. Representatives of the Programme had a meeting with the City Mayor Nikolay Kuzmenko and the Head of the City Administration Anatoly Abramov. The parties summarized the results of the work of the Partnership and recognized the progress made in launching new projects.

  Visit of CNCP Programme representatives to Kurchatov, November 2007

On the 5th and 6th of November a visit of CNCP delegation took place in Kurchatov (Kazakhstan). CNCP representatives visited a site, on which it is planned to build Kazakhstan Material Research Reactor TOKAMAK (KTM), and discussed prospects of this project.


  Results of CNCP Steering Group Meeting, November 2007

At the meeting on 2nd November 2007 the CNCP Steering Group approved 5 projects: 4 from Russia and 1 from Kazakhstan. The Committee approved outline proposals for the 18 projects.

  The 3rd Annual Conference of CNCP in Tashkent, September 2007

The 3rd annual conference of the UK Closed Nuclear Centres Programme was held in Tashkent, from 24-27 September. The Programme covers Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan, and focuses on commercialisation of scientific and technical R&D, to create new jobs for former nuclear weapons specialists. The conference's main goals were to discuss the results achieved last year, to talk about on-going and new projects and to exchange opinions.

  On September 18-19, 2007, CNCP held Energy efficiency seminar in Moscow

42 people working on energy efficiency issues from the UK, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Bulgaria took part in the seminar. The meeting tackled challenges involved in developing energy efficiency through energy consulting and engineering and through the production of energy efficient equipment and materials. Systems for financing saving initiatives were also discussed.

  Study tour to the UK on the theme of "Commercialisation of Science and Technology and the Formation of Successful Businesses", September 2007

On 9th - 16th September 2007 UK-Russia Closed Nuclear Cities Partnership organised a study tour to the UK on the theme of "Commercialisation of Science and Technology and the Formation of Successful Businesses" for leaders of nuclear weapons institutes and enterprises, City Administrations and Business Support Agencies.

On 21-25 August a CNCP delegation visited companies currently implementing the following projects: Makhaon Ltd. - production of decorative glass for furniture, NPO PM MKB - production of block heat units, Kollahit - production of therapeutic wound dressings, Siberian Jewelry Plant Ltd., Russian Profile Ltd. - furniture for bathrooms, Sibmetal-konstruktsiya Ltd. - production of metal corrugated roofing material, Furniture Factory Kardinal Ltd. - cabinet furniture production, Rolling Plant Alukom Ltd. - establishment of production line for aluminum composite panels.

  The Fifth Annual CNCP Conference, Kazan 17-19 July 2007

This annual conference brings together representatives of the closed nuclear cities, enterprises and institutes, British experts and the Programme leadership from both the British and Russian sides. Discussions covered CNCP operation in each city, as well across the whole of Russia. The Programme's success in Uzbekistan was highlighted as an example of progress being made in other FSU countries.

  CNCP delegation visited Snezhinsk and Ozersk from 24 to 29 June 2007

The audit of 12 enterprises in Snezhinsk and 2 enterprises in Ozersk funded by CNCP was carried out during the visits to the cities. Also, the visit programme to Ozersk included the visit to 3 out of 4 enterprises which successfully implemented CNCP projects in 2006.

  CNCP meeting in Almaty from 4th to 7th of June 2007

From 4th to 7th of June 2007 the CNCP delegation participated in the 6th annual conference "Nuclear and Radiation Physics - 2007" which took place in the Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP), Republic of Kazakhstan, Almaty. The conference marked the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the INP.

  CNCP official delegation visited KIPT (Ukraine) on 22-24 May 2007

  • Ozone-based automobile tyres recycling technology.
  • Manufacture of thin vacuum-tight beryllium foils.

  CNCP team visited Uzbekistan from 15-16 May 2007

Delegates discussed the preparation of the annual CNCP conference to be held in Tashkent in September 2007, and 3 projects currently being implemented (gems colouration, Co-57 production, water purification) with the INP management.

  CNCP Delegation visited Krasnoyarsk on 5-7 May 2007

The team met managers of projects implemented in Zheleznogorsk under CNCP. The management of NPO PM MKB reported on measures taken to get new orders. CNCP marketing expert Christophe Trontin discussed the company's strategy targeted at sales market expansion with a specially established sales group.

  Demonstration and discussions at Zvezdochka on 3 May 2007

The CNCP Director Trevor Hayward from UK DTI, the British Embassy Naval Attache Garry Newton, the project manager for the AMEC programme on alternative technologies for submarine decommissioning Tommy Green from Nukem, two Royal Navy experts on water-jetting and Christopher Watson from CNCP took part in a successful demonstration of the advanced water-jetting submarine hull cutting technology developed by VNIITF scientists under a CNCP grant aided project.

  CNCP International seminar on commercialisation of scientific and technical developments, March 2007

The CNCP Programme and International Scientific and Technical Centre (ISTC) hold a seminar on commercialisation of results of scientific and technical developments.
The seminar was attended by 80 participants who represented 35 organisations from the United Kingdom, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Belorussia and many cities of Russia - Moscow, Ekaterinburg, Saint-Petersburg, Zheleznogorsk, Novouralsk, Trekhgorniy, Obninsk, Ozersk, Sarov, Seversk and Snezhinsk.

  Business English Language Course at De Montfort University,
February-March 2007

Business English courses at De Montfort University have become a traditional part of the programme, and the latest took place between 5 February and 3 March 2007. The course was attended by representatives of the FSU counties working under the CNCP Programme. The group comprised of 15 participants from Ozersk, Sarov, Snezhinsk, Zheleznogorsk, Moscow, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, representing nuclear centres, city administrations and scientific institutions.

  The study tour to the United Kingdom, February 2007

The UK Closed Nuclear Centres Programme (CNCP) organises annual study tours to the UK on themes such as the Commercialisation of Science and Technology and the Creation of Sustainable Businesses. The main aim of the study tours is to enable senior managers and specialists from nuclear research centres directly involved in putting R&D into practice, to learn from the British experience of commercialisation leading to the formation of new businesses. Between 18-26 February 2007, one such tour took place, attended by 12 representatives of nuclear centres from Armenia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine. The itinerary was designed to include several companies which manage large research units, R&D centres in British Universities, and companies engaged in the commercialisation of high-tech inventions.
