Enhanced Wood Processing Facility at Siberian Chemical Kombinat.
Objectives
Creation of 34 new jobs for highly-qualified personnel dismissed
due to decommissioning of the SCK reactor
Training of personnel and improving their skills.
Fulfillment and support of local social programmes.
Support of local budgets.
Gaining additional profits from woodworking.
Summary
To enable the Siberian Chemical Kombinat (SCK) at Seversk to expand existing wood processing
facilities at its Repair and Engineering Plant. This expansion would enable SCK to supply a wider
range of finished softwood products, both to the local market and internationally, and thereby
create 34 new jobs for staff currently employed by SCK in support of weapons-related work.
The resulting enterprise, if successful, would be a candidate for privatization.
The initial target market is the local construction industry in the Tomsk region. SCK currently
supplies 2500 m3 of softwood products annually, in the form of door and window frames, both for use
within SCK's own building stock and for supply to local construction firms. It now intends to
dramatically increase its production to at least 50,000 m3 per year and produce a wider range
of products. It already has outline sales agreements with construction organisations in the region.
This enterprise also has the potential to enter export markets at a later stage.
Cost
Total cost of the project is £133,000. The DTI is funding a contribution of £125,000.
