Ceramic products from nanopowders

Title

Production of ceramic products from nanopowders oxide.

Objectives

  • Create in ZATO Seversk a production of structural ceramic products.
  • Reach the sales level of ? 149,900 after 18 months of project implementation and production level of 2 tons per year.
  • Fulfillment and support of local social programmes.
  • Create 26 new jobs for specialists, including at least 15 for former employees of FSUE SCK.

Summary

The Project proposed by the "Research and Production Enterprise "TechKerama" Ltd. envisages creation of a new enterprise on the basis of a production line being closed down at SCK which is going to produce ceramic products from aluminium oxide nanopowders (and other elements) using the plasma chemical technology.

The Market Study has identified a wide range of potential customers for small sub-micron ceramic products in Siberia and in Russia generally.
The list of required products includes:

  • wear-resistant components of machines & equipment;
  • protective sheaths for cables and wires;
  • fibre reinforcement for textiles;
  • nozzles for water-jetting, gas-burners, plasma welders & cutters;
  • dies for wire-pulling;
  • insulators for electrical and electronic equipment;
  • components of mechanical grinding/milling equipment;
  • crucibles for melting and combustion in the laboratory;
  • moulds for hollow brick manufacture.

Initially, TekhKerama is going to buy in nanopowder and shliker manufactured by SCK, but eventually (after 2.5 years) create its own independent capability for nanopowder and shliker manufacture. Meanwhile, it is going to create its own facility for the manufacture of ceramic products. Both shliker and these products are to be vigorously marketed, initially within Russia, but eventually world-wide.

Cost

Total cost of the project is £129,701. The DTI is funding a contribution of £80,000.
