Plan
This project was proposed by LLC 'Ecotekhnologii', a spin-off company from VNIIEF Conversia,
which is the diversification arm of VNIIEF, the weapons design centre in Sarov.
The project aims to establish on the new Sarov Open Technopark, production of biomass briquetting equipment. Briquettes are a fuel
based upon renewable biomass resources (in this case principally wood waste from sawmills), which can be used as a coal substitute
in home stoves and industrial boilers and furnaces. Once the briquetting facility design has been proven in operation, further
briquetting facilities will be established at sawmills throughout Nizhny Novgorod region, with the active support of the Nizhny
Novgorod oblast authorities.
Benefits for Nizhny Novgorod region and other wood-rich oblasts that adopt biomass as a fuel would be: reduced dependence on
imported fuels, reduced exposure to growing fossil fuel prices, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and improved environmental performance
through waste recycling.
